Sustainability at VELO DE VILLE
Our REMONDIS certificate 2024
At VELO DE VILLE, sustainability is not just a trend, but a commitment. For years, we have been focusing on environmentally friendly processes and resource-saving production – and this has now been officially recognised!
REMONDIS AG & Co. KG evaluates corporate activities in terms of sustainability and awards a sustainability certificate as information about the use of limited resources, the promotion of recycling and compliance with environmental standards. We already received the REMONDIS sustainability certificate in 2022, and now we are delighted to have been awarded this important distinction again for 2024.
What is behind the certificate?
The REMONDIS sustainability certificate confirms our sustainable waste recycling and documents the positive effects on the environment and climate. Through our cooperation with REMONDIS, we were able to achieve impressive savings again this year:
- 38.1 tonnes of oil equivalent in fossil resources saved
- 14.9 tonnes of copper equivalent less metal consumption
- 136.5 tonnes of wood equivalent in biogenic resources saved
- 1,411.7 MWh of energy saved – equivalent to the electricity and heating requirements of 83 households
- 115.7 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent less greenhouse gases – comparable to a car journey of over 700,000 kilometres
Why is this important?
As a manufacturer of custom-made bicycles and e-bikes, we focus on durable, sustainable products. But sustainability doesn't end with our bikes – our production processes and waste recycling also play an important role. The REMONDIS certificate shows that we act responsibly and make an active contribution to climate protection.
Our commitment continues
Sustainability is an ongoing process. We are constantly working to make our production processes even more efficient and resource-friendly – for an environmentally friendly future and more riding pleasure on two wheels.
How does the sustainability certificate assessment work?
The calculation methodology of the REMONDIS sustainability certificate and the resulting assessment comprises a total of six categories.
- Collection: The waste is carefully categorised on site. Depending on the material flow, the amount of waste collected and the number of container empties required are recorded.
- Transport: REMONDIS checks the container types and transport distances. Efficient logistics and the shortest possible transport routes minimise fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
- Processing: REMONDIS separates the material flow into single-type material flows and shreds them. The higher the material quality before the first processing step, the less energy and emissions are required to separate the material flow and process it into high-quality recycled raw materials.
- Delivery: The processed materials are transported to the production sites and used there as recycled materials. The type of vehicle, the distance to the sites and efficient route planning are crucial for reducing energy consumption and emissions.
- Recycling: Recycled materials are used to generate energy, which leads to savings in emissions and significantly reduces the burden on the material cycle.
- Raw material substitution: The use of high-quality recycled raw materials can replace and save primary raw materials.
