90 Percent Recycled Material for Our Bike Garage
Our Bike Garage Is Becoming Even More Sustainable
For many years, we have relied on innovative solutions in our manufacturing facility to reduce plastic waste during bicycle shipping. One of these is the Bike Garage.
Originally developed to protect our bikes from dust and provide cushioning during transport, the Bike Garage serves another purpose even after delivery: it can be used as a practical protective cover for storage. Our dealers in particular benefit from this reuse.
Even before, the Bike Garage was made of 80 percent recycled material and was fully recyclable. But we didn’t rest on our laurels: We were able to further increase the proportion of recycled material. Today, the Bike Garage is made of 90 percent recycled material—and remains 100 percent recyclable.
The Bike Garage as a sustainable protective solution for shipping
In the past, our bikes were secured with single-use protective film during transport—resulting in correspondingly high plastic consumption.
The switch to the VELO DE VILLE Bike Garage offers clear advantages:
- Reduced use of virgin plastics in the material cycle
- Further reduction of the carbon footprint
- Unchanged full recyclability
Optimizing the material is another key component of our more sustainable packaging strategy.
Reuse instead of throwing away
For us, sustainability doesn’t end with delivery. Our retail partners are also part of the system.
They receive the bikes in the Bike Garage and can choose between two options:
- Passing it on to customers, for example, to store the bikes safely during the winter. This transforms the transport packaging into a durable protective solution that can be reused not only for storage at the retailer but also subsequently to protect the bike at the end customer’s location.
- Returning collected Bike Garages to VELO DE VILLE, where they are reused as recycled garages for new shipments.
Returned bike garages are inspected at our manufacturing facility and reused for shipping. This creates a functional cycle that conserves resources and prevents waste.
